Marriage

In the United Free Church of Scotland, marriage is a sacred covenant instituted by God and affirmed in Scripture as a lifelong union between one man and one woman. It is both a gift of God’s grace and a reflection of the relationship between Christ and His Church.

Marriage is not only a social or legal contract but a spiritual commitment made before God. It is a covenant of faithfulness, love, and mutual care, grounded in God’s Word and sustained by His grace.

Within the church, marriage services are acts of worship, seeking God’s blessing on the couple as they begin their life together. 

The church encourages couples to approach marriage prayerfully, recognising its solemn and joyful nature, and to seek the counsel and guidance of the minister during preparation.
