Church Membership

In the United Free Church of Scotland, church membership is a joyful expression of belonging to Christ and His people. It is both a privilege and a responsibility, marking a person’s commitment to follow Jesus, share in the life of the Church, and serve within the fellowship of believers.

Becoming a member affirms that we are part of the body of Christ, joined together by faith and called to worship, witness, and grow in grace. Membership is not about status but about participation in the covenant community, where each person contributes to the spiritual life and mission of the Church.

There are three main ways to become a member of Balintore United Free Church:

  1. Profession of Faith -  Those who have come to personal faith in Jesus Christ and have not previously been members of a Christian church are welcomed into membership upon publicly professing their faith before the congregation and the Kirk Session.
  2. Transference - This applies to those who are already members of another congregation within the United Free Church of Scotland denomination and wish to transfer their membership to Balintore UF.
  3. Resolution of the Kirk Session - The Kirk Session may, by formal resolution, admit into membership those who belong to another Christian denomination and who wish to unite with Balintore United Free Church. This allows believers from outside the denomination to be received into full fellowship within the congregation

Church membership is both a sign and a means of grace. It strengthens our sense of belonging, encourages mutual care, and commits us to serve together in the name of Christ.
